What extrodinary things have your ordinary people accomplished? How did they overcome obstacles?

The Things Gary Paulson has overcome is life-threatening events like a dog sled flipping ontop of him, a deer attack, a plane almost hitting a lake and splitting in half. Hes also ate weird things to survive like eyeballs, guts, hearts (i know it's nasty but it shows what sombody will do to try and survive)

Bethany Hamilton is an anmazing surfer and she lived in Hawaii. When she really wanted to do alot of competions and wanted to surf more ahe started homeschooling. She loves her sport and she'll never let anything stop here. The water tested her when she was just 15 surfing with some friends, she was attacked by a shark. She never screemed she just knew that she needed to get to the beach. Once she got to the beach with her friends help she knew now she was in gods hands. When she got to the hostpital she was in surgey within minutes. She lost her arm, and she was doubting if she'd ever surf again. She heeled and with in months she was back in the board in the water again.

Steve Irwin was an extrodinary person, he saved many animals in the australlian continent and saved animals all over the world. The main extrodinary thing he did was open a crocidile reservation in Australlia. He fought off the poachers, lived in in the outback for days trying to save them, risking his own life for them, and putting trackers on them to make sure they were safe at all times. And one day in September he went out to go save a sting ray and the ray's bard pierced his heart, he died of a cardiact arrest.

So does she still surf.

i read a book about ann frank it was really upsetting to hear about her life. She never had it easy, but she never lost hope.

Out of all the crazy stuff Steve Irwin did, I was honestly surprised at the way he died. It's insane how he battled with several life-threatening animals, and was killed by a typically harmless stingray.

My ordinary person is Jack Mendelbaum who survived the horrible Halocaust and saved other people in the process. He would steal food for him and other prisoners.Jack also survived the grueling hard labor that was set for him just for him and the other prisoners would die.

How did Gary Paulson do that? He ate guts and hearts. I know i'd rather die than resort to eating someone else organs.that sick!

Rosa Parks stood her ground and for what she belived in. She didn't give up her seat and took a stand against segrigation. Why is this exstraordinary? Well because she started a movement that started the stop of segrigation. She overcame many obstacles like when she was thretened to be arrested she didn't back down and that was a huge sign of curage.

My biography subject, Elizabeth Blackwell, was just an ordinary person. But, in 1849, she became the first woman doctor. She overcame the obstacles of being discriminated by her gender. She applied to 30 colleges and only one of them accepted her. I guess you could say she overcame the obstacle of losing hope. I think she was very brave for doing this. Out of all of the blogs so far, Elizabeth would be most like Britney Keen's subject - Bethany Hamilton. Britney said that she didn't let anything stop her from accomplishing her goals. Neither did Elizabeth. She kept going until she reached her goal.

My biography is about the amazing Anne Frank and the journey she went through. She had to go in hiding with another Jewish family were she fell in love with their son, Peter.

I already know Katie and Mikayla are already reading biographies on Anne Frank, but, So am I. Except, I'm reading the diary of Anne Frank(written by Anne Frank). It's so fascinating reading Anne's diary entries. . . she is a girl JUST like me. The reason I read about her was not only because we share the same religion and that I wanted to know more about her, I read her diaries because I wanted to relate to her and what happened to her family. My great, great grandparents and their boatload of kids(except my great grandmother) were executed during the holocaust. It was already hard enough for my grandparents to talk to me about it, so I didn't want to make them sad. So, I thought reading "The diary of a young girl" by Anne Frank, would help me discover those missing details I missed from the holocaust, that I had and urge to know. Anne Frank went into hiding from when she was 13 to 16. . . dreadful it was. She had to stay with the Van Daan family. Like any other teenage girl she was raging with hormones, for a young man she was hiding with named Peter! She went through problems just like us. . . fights with her parents, and siblings, wanted to know more about the things around her, etc. Reading her diaries gave me a whole new perspective on things in life. While you're reading this book, you can really experience it in your head. Anne went into so much detail for such a young girl. It really makes you want to keep reading, and reading!

So Mikayla. . . In your biography about Anne, how much did the author go into description?

Anne Frank had many challenges. Her biggest one was staying resilience because she had to keep her beliefs on her religious freedoms to stay strong when she was at one of the concentration camps. Until she was taken, she was just a normal girl.

Manjiro belonged to a poor family, and when his father died, he became the head of the family...at age nine!
He was forced to become a fisher because that's what Japanese law told him he had to be. On one fishing trip, a terrible storm came and left Manjiro and 4 other people stranded in the middle of the ocean.
After 8 days lost at sea, they finally saw land. They had to swim because their boat would be crushed if they tried to bring it to shore.
They ended up being stranded on the small island for over 5 months. During that time, they nearly froze to death & starved.
They were finally rescued by crew members of the John Howland and were taken to the Hawaiian islands.

I think that its so amazing that even though he went through a lot, he managed to survive and go on to be the first Japanese person to live in America and get an education. As well as later in life when he returns to Japan, he is granted the title of a samurai.

Anne Frank seemed very. . . disliked in the "Secret Annexe". Mrs. Van Daan would always so bad things about Anne. But through it all Anne always stood strong in my opinion, plus she had to share a room with a doctor. . . he was nice but she felt uncomfortable sharing her own space with him. Unlike most kids Anne loved learning new things, such as languages. Anne had very strong feelings for her father, she loved him dearly, her mother on the other hand she didn't have the closest relationship with. As she got older Anne started to realize her mother was just trying to raise Anne properly.

Amanda sounds like your person had many obsticals to over come. Also, my person had many obsticals in his life. Some obsticals he over came was being a landlord during the Cultural Revolution.Another obstical that my person had was that it was hard for him to get an education because everyone hated him and that he got kicked out of school because he did not do one of the assignment that the teacher had assigned to the class and that the teacher gave him another chance to make up the work that he refused to do. One of the things that he said was "School was chaos... Teachers could do almost nothing to remedy the situation for fear of being branded a stinking intellectual or a counterrevolutionary."

I never knew who your person was until I read your blog. My favorite part of your blog was when you mentioned how she tried to get into 30 colleges. I think that this was important because I know how hard it was for women years before we where alive.
