In what time period was your person famous? Did she have to overcome discrimination for being female during this time period? Why or why not?

Queen Elizabeth II is still alive today but she was born in 1926. She didn't have to overcome any discrimination for being female but she did have to overcome the fear of being the queen of England.

Well Kendra that was very ... interesting.Umm this person I was like reading and umm researching is Mary Baker Eddy no shes not related to me. But she is pretty amazing because she had three horible mariages, kicked out of her house because her Dad was in married to a evil step mom, has been homeless a number of times. Then she was separated from her only son but even after all that she still kept going. She is actually is famous for finding a new religion Christian science.

Ji-Li Jiang was a famous female for surviving the cultral revolution in china. Her family had a "black" status, meaning that her family was one of the millions in china that were outcasts because of there family history or belefs. She had to go through continueous ridicule and torment because her grandfather was a landlord (in china there concidered evil and greedy)her family was even raided by the red gaurds, an organization that punished black familys for just being that way! I think she was a brave person to go through those dark times.

Maria Tallchief was a famous dancer. She was considered America's first prima ballerina. Although many people would think that her life was great and wonderful, being a ballerina but it wasn't. As a child she faced hard times being raised in a native american family. When trying to get jobs dancing with specific companies she was not excepted because of her color and nationality but she never gave up because she knew that was what she wanted to do.

Elizabeth Blackwell was born in 1821 and died in 1910. She became the first woman doctor in 1849. At this time, men were only considered to be physicians. A lot of people were rude to her because she was trying to "invade on a man's right." Elizabeth was very brave for standing up to those who discriminated her simply because of her gender and a college degree. Women's jobs were sewing and nursing in this time - not being a doctor. As Kendra said about Queen Elizabeth II, who had to overcome a fear, Elizabeth Blackwell had to overcome the fear of being made a joke by the other men who shared her profession.

Anne Frank is a very famous historical figure. She is best known for the writings in her diary, which helped to explain what was happening during the Holocaust. She was giving the diary on her 13th birthday, and loved it dearly. Soon after Hitler came into power, he ordered the removal of all Jews. Anne and her family went into hiding for 2 years, but were betrayed by someone. They were caught on August 4, 1944 and sent away to concentration camps. She was forced into hard labor and was giving little good. The conditions were horrible and diseases raged in the crowded rooms. Anne died in April, 1945 from Typhus fever. I admire Anne for her attitude towards the situation. She always had hope.

Helen Keller was blind as many people may know, but she also was deaf. When I started researching her, I learned that at first, when she was born, she was not a deaf-blind child. When she was 18 months old she had a bad fever. Thats what caused her condition. After this, when she was a toddler, she was looked at as a bad child and began to act so. I honestly feel bad for her because she was looked at like a bad person because she didn't know what she was doing was bad or mean. This is why I think she is so incredible and brave. She had all odds against her but she still seemed to become a great person.

My famous person is Selena Quintanilla, she was a famous for being a Hispanic singer. There wasn't really a lot of famous hispanic singers when she was around. I wrote about Selena because when I was young I saw a movie that was about her and it made me want to learn some more about her. Someone would write a book about her because she was in a terrible excident when she was only 24. Sense she died when she was so young and was so famous I would think someone would write about her because of that. That is why I wrote about Selena Quintanilla.
